Hi! I'm Anna and welcome to my page. Here are my qualifications at a glance:

  • Advanced Mat Pilates teacher diploma (2016)

  • Pilates with Small Equipment certificate (2016)

  • Pilates for Orthopaedic Conditions certificate (2016)

  • Pre- and Postnatal Pilates certificate (2022)

  • BSc(Hons) Physiological Sciences (2013)

Here's a little bit about my background! I started my dance and fitness journey with Irish dancing in 2004 in Finland. Between 2006-2009 I was actively performing and teaching. In 2009 I left Finland to study a degree in physiology in the University of Dundee in Scotland.

The drive to dance and teach Irish dance persisted, resulting in me starting my own school, Irish Dance Studio in 2011. I graduated with BSc(Hons) Physiological Sciences in 2013 and started a full-time job with Dundee University as a laboratory management technician. The same year I expanded Irish Dance Studio and changed the name to Dundee Dance Studios offering a variety of dance styles and employing multiple dance teachers.  I started my Pilates teacher training in 2015, completing the advanced Pilates mat instructor diploma in 2016 with FutureFit in London. I then moved to directing the school and teaching Pilates and Irish Dance full time and had two studio locations in Dundee. Over the following few years I continued my Pilates training and completed the Pilates with Small Equipment, Pilates for Small Orthopaedic Conditions and Pre- and Postnatal Pilates courses.

After 9 successful years running a dance studio, I felt it was time to move on. In December 2019 I closed Dundee Dance Studios on Brown St in Dundee in order to fully focus on my Pilates and Barre teaching. The North Isla St studios were rebranded as Anna McLean Pilates Studio, offering high quality Pilates, Barre and Yoga classes. I employed 3 other teachers in order to offer a comprehensive class schedule.

When lockdown happened in March 2020 due to Covid-19, I moved my classes online. By end of June, it was clear that the new way of teaching suited me very well, removing the need for 12h of commuting a week! I was able to also double her teaching hours and take on all the classes myself. I let go of the studio premises in Dundee and moved fully online, offering both On-Demand video classes as well as live online classes on Zoom. Currently there's over 800 video classes in the Video Library!  At best I was teaching about 20 classes a week and enjoyed it thoroughly! When I fell pregnant in 2021 I had to slow down a little bit but was still teaching an almost full timetable till the end of my pregnancy.

In December 2021 I had my little girl and by October 2022 it was clear I had to make some changes. I had started in-person classes in Kirkcaldy in May and it was time to focus on those and cut down on hours teaching online from home... it had become quite challenging with a baby! I currently teach on Tuesdays and Thursdays in a church hall at St Peter's Episcopal Church in Kirkcaldy. Not forgetting my lovely clients in Dundee, I stream the Kirkcaldy Barre class, some of the Pilates classes and recently have added more weekly zoom only classes as well. On-Demand plans are still also available to buy, so you can make use of my extensive Video Library. See you at class!
